IT’S NOT ALL DOWNHILL FOR AVALANCHE!!
permalink

Congratulations is in order for Avalanche Managing Director, Scott Mills, after completing a 38 Mile bike ride for charity.

From Manchester to Liverpool, the charity bike ride was to support MAG (Mines Advisory Group) http://www.madinternational.org. MAG is a neutral and impartial humanitarian organisation clearing the remnants of conflict for the benefit of communities worldwide. In our opinion a very worthwhile charity.

Scott has been in training for the ride for a while and has been hounding all and sundry for sponsorship. He’s raised over £300 for the charity. Well done to all who sponsored Scott. A special thank you goes out to Howard from Richard Thacker http://www.richardthacker.co.uk , Helene from Stockport Council http://www.stockport.gov.uk and Michael from pd-u http://www.pd-u.co.uk .

After the ride Scott was surprised how well it all went ” I geared myself up for an hour or two longer, so I’m really pleased. Although the last hill was a killer!!”

The day went off without a hitch, in the searing mid-day heat, however there was one puncture… on the mini bus on the way home!!

So a BIG WELL DONE to Scott and all who took part on the day!!!

We were asked recently to design some sales literature for Travel Addicts. A company who can offer high class travel and tailor made travel solutions.

The project came off pretty much by chance. Bumping into the MD of Travel Addicts, at an event, who was very interested in our graphic design services. As they also have offices in stockport, it seemed to be an ideal opportunity for us.

We were asked to design a sales brochure to promote the companies luxury holidays. We used a wide range of specialist imagery along with a metallic silver on the printed brochures to enhance the overall feel to literature. While we were working on the project I think we all disappeared into our own little mental get aways, wondering how nice it would be to be at some of the destinations. Then we looked out of the window and it brought back down to earth.

For further information on the project click here.

Stockport Council & NHS Brochure

Hello faithful readers!

For those of you involved in our latest piece of work for Stockport Council and the NHS, you will know its been a while in the pipe-line, but thanks to some long hours and tough discussions from everyone involved we have made it. And I think it looks rather nice, even if I say so myself!!.

We really value designing for projects like this. As an active member of the Stockport community we enjoy the chance to work closely with the council and in this case with Stockport NHS Primary Care Trust.

Not only do we get the chance to develop some great ideas, we also get to see first hand what projects and schemes we, as TAX payers, are contributing to and helping to make happen. I think you would agree that any project which helps improve the local health and care services better is worthwhile.

Design for projects like this where there is a number of people involved in the decision making process means that there will always be differing opinions throughout the course of the job. However, it is our job as designers and creative thinkers to work closely with our clients and try to understand their needs. Especially with informational brochures such as this. Working together is key, not only to getting through a job like this, but also to have a finished piece which you are both happy with functionally and proud of aesthetically.

Well done eveyone.

We have been very busy over the last week creating marketing material for ‘Gandeys World Class Productions’. We have been designing for Gandeys now for 4 years and have done a great deal of work for them over the years such as the Ladyboys of Bangkok, Cirque Surreal, Spirit of the Horse, Chinese and Moscow State Circus’ and Krystal Dinner Show. We have designed posters, leaflets, brochures, logos, various websites and anything to promote the touring shows. It is a far cry from our usual corporate world and has been a great joy to work on. I rarely get chance myself these days to actually produce the work but cast my eye on Pete and Claire working on the projects. Its great to know that they ‘just make it happen’ which has happened this last few weeks on one particular job. We were asked to design a series of posters, flyers, leaflets and tickets for a new show called ‘Gandeys Big TV Circus’ and new venture for Gandeys, one which encompasses a whole range of talented acts. Some acts are from Cirque Surreal and some are fairly new to the circus circuit. The show is a mix of new and old acts that have at one time or another has been on TV. There are a few that have appeared on Britain’s got talent such a Jameel who juggles footballs with unbelievable ease. We have seen him at Cirque Surreal a few times in the past and have always been amazed by his skills. Another act which is a personal favorite of mine. (for obvious reasons) is a high wire act called Victoria Antipova. She never fails to amaze me. Acts also included are performers from the Tv show ‘Cirque De Celebrité’ which was aired on Sky One last year. New acts are included from various channels tv shows. We will certainly be going to see the show and have a laugh as we are told there is going to be a clap’o’meter to judge the acts. We will fixing our tongue well into our cheeks on this one I think. We will be taking plenty of pics of us enjoying the show and adding them to the blog no doubt. Anyway this job has been a very fast turn around and has been done is a very brash way unlike other Gandeys projects we work on. We were told to design the posters in a way that they could be seen from the other side of the road. Red and Yellow was the order of the day and had to be used with very bold type so it was pretty much set out for us as Phillip and Pete from Gandeys had an idea of what they wanted from the start. We just needed to make it happen. The posters and general material produced for this is done in an old fashioned circus style. One particular poster is fashioned from an old poster that Phillip Gandey showed us from the days when his father was a clown in Gandeys World Famous Circus. We were asked to re create the old fashioned act poster and I think it works very well. I am sure in brings a little nostalgia to Phillip when he sees the old style brought into a contemporary theme.

Pete and Claire got onto this project fairly quickly, I turned around and it was done in a few days as we had such a tight deadline. Mike Brittain, the photographer was asked to shoot Trevor Jones of Star Wars fame as he is ring master to the show. Mike shot Trevor as if he was holding up a TV over his head and we did the rest. No its not a real TV above his head incase your wondering. Mike never fails to shoot just what we need to on all the Gandeys projects particularly this years Ladyboys brochure which was a real success for us both. Gandeys Big TV Circus is touring the North West over the next few months and will be a something to see to have a real laugh. Check out: www.gandeyscircus.co.uk for tickets and dates etc.
I have recently had a bit of stick in the office over the last week as I have been a little over excited about our new blog so there will no doubt be more blogs by myself shortly.
